Paramount+ concludes the animated sequel's 13-episode opening run with a four-part finale that unlocks the planet's Root Chakra, uncovers painful family secrets, and garners top critical marks from reviewers.
The first season of Avatar: Seven Havens concluded Friday on Paramount+ with a four-episode finale that split its dual protagonists and earned critical acclaim for taking the animated fantasy franchise into darker thematic territory.
Covering episodes 10 through 13 of Book 1: Survival, the broadcast brought the 13-episode opening chapter to a close while setting the stage for future installments already confirmed by Avatar Studios. Reviewing the four-part conclusion on Friday, IGN critic Alex Zalben awarded the finale a score of 9 out of 10, describing the closing quartet as a worthy successor to both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
Created by franchise architects Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko alongside executive producers Sehaj Sethi and Ethan Spaulding, the sequel is set approximately 225 years after Korra. The narrative unfolds across a post-apocalyptic landscape where humanity has retreated into seven fortified settlements known as the Seven Havens. Unlike previous eras where the Avatar was revered as a global peacekeeper, the populace of this era views the Avatar cycle with open hostility, holding past incarnations responsible for a cataclysm that fractured physical borders and unleashed dangerous spirit activity.
Against this backdrop, nine-year-old earthbender orphan Pavi, voiced by Saheli Khan, and her separated twin sister Nisha, voiced by Aishu Devan, discovered early in the season that both possess the unprecedented ability to manipulate all four elements.
The final batch of episodes resolved lingering character loyalties before plunging the twin Avatars into open confrontation. Episode 10 clarified the allegiances of airbender platoon leader Jae, voiced by Major Curda. Rather than betraying the Order of the White Lotus as earlier installments suggested, Jae feigned compliance with local authorities in Ellora to avoid imprisonment and orchestrate a subsequent rescue. In Episode 11, Jae reaffirmed his commitment to the group, declaring he would always stand united with Team Avatar.
The narrative also clarified the cosmic mechanics behind the world's dwindling elemental powers. Conversations with local ally Agam, voiced by Sakina Jaffrey, established that the seven havens correspond to the planet's seven spiritual chakras, which have become blocked and degraded over two centuries. Ellora represents the red Root Chakra, an energy center obstructed by widespread fear.
Romantic subplots also reached a decisive turning point in Episode 12. Jae and his nonbender partner Datu, voiced by Topher Ngo, formally ended their relationship, allowing the airbender freedom to accompany Pavi on her impending trek beyond Ellora's perimeter walls.
Episode 12, titled The Dome, escalated external danger when city council leader Kayoko, voiced by Jennifer Sun Bell, disrupted Nisha's defensive earthbending stance. That interference unleashed a swirling barrier of fear energy across the metropolis. Caught inside the supernatural anomaly, the sisters experienced an emotional vision of their deceased mother that exposed the circumstances surrounding their upbringing.
The sequence confirmed that the twins' parents had abandoned Nisha as a child. In the aftermath, both parents died in a localized rockslide inadvertently triggered by Nisha. While the fatal accident devastated Pavi, the discovery that Nisha had withheld the truth generated an irreparable breach of trust between the siblings.
In Episode 13, titled The Root Chakra, Pavi mobilized massive earthbending reserves to neutralize the invasive energy dome, successfully cleansing the settlement's spiritual conduit. The physical and emotional ordeal fundamentally altered the young bender. Khan adopted a matured vocal register to reflect Pavi's sudden psychological hardening, accompanied by a visual redesign of her hairstyle.
Rather than uniting the sisters in triumph, the finale separated the twin Avatars along diverging paths. Nisha opted to stay in Ellora under the guidance of airbender commander Karthik, voiced by Akshay Khanna, receiving public adoration from a citizenry that previously feared her existence. Pavi departed the stronghold alongside Jae, embarking across the desolate wasteland toward the second haven.
Major narrative threads linger unresolved as production shifts toward the next season. Kayoko is still under the influence of the malevolent fear entity, and the deeper mystery behind Korra's connection to the historical cataclysm is still unexplained. With Avatar Studios holding orders extending through Book 4, the franchise has positioned its separated benders on conflicting journeys to heal a shattered world.
