The 32-year-old actor cited irreconcilable differences in Los Angeles court documents, requesting that judges deny spousal support to either party following the couple's July 2025 separation.
Actor Mia Goth has filed a legal petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court to dissolve her marriage to Shia LaBeouf, formalizing a separation that began more than one year ago and concluding a high profile relationship that spanned more than a decade across independent cinema and public scrutiny.
The civil petition, submitted Tuesday in California, cites irreconcilable differences as the legal foundation for ending the marriage. Court records show that Goth, 32, and LaBeouf, 40, married on October 10, 2016, and would have reached their tenth wedding anniversary this week. Official documents establish that the two performers have resided in separate households since July 28, 2025.
Under the terms outlined in her filing, Goth is seeking primary legal and physical custody of the couple's daughter, Isabel, who was born in March 2022 and is four years of age. The filing requests that the court grant LaBeouf visitation rights. Goth also asked the court to terminate its authority to award spousal support to either party, barring both individuals from receiving alimony payments as part of the final dissolution decree.
Representatives for both Goth and LaBeouf did not immediately respond to inquiries seeking comment on Tuesday regarding the divorce petition.
The formal filing concludes an extensive partnership that began when the two performers first met in 2012 during the production of director Lars von Trier's drama Nymphomaniac: Vol. II. Their creative collaboration soon developed into a romantic relationship, leading to frequent joint appearances at international film festivals and red carpet premieres across Europe and North America.
On October 10, 2016, the couple participated in a widely publicized ceremony in Nevada officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator at the Viva Las Vegas wedding chapel. Clark County officials later stated that a formal marriage license had not been registered for that specific ceremony, but LaBeouf subsequently confirmed during a national television appearance that they had legally wed. The union represented the first marriage for both actors.
Two years into the marriage, in September 2018, representatives announced that the couple had separated and were pursuing an amicable divorce. That split was never finalized in court. By early 2020, Goth and LaBeouf had reconciled, appearing publicly together in Los Angeles while wearing their wedding rings.
The arrival of their daughter Isabel in March 2022 signaled a period of stability for the household. In public interviews following their reunion, LaBeouf praised Goth for supporting him through profound personal turmoil, stating that she offered hope during a period when he was struggling with sobriety and facing career setbacks.
Despite their earlier reconciliation, the couple separated permanently in July 2025. LaBeouf addressed the conclusion of the marriage earlier this year during an interview on an independent digital broadcast, acknowledging personal responsibility for the collapse of the union. He stated that the former partners remained on good terms, prioritizing cooperative co parenting while maintaining regular contact regarding their daughter.
Following their separation, both performers pursued divergent personal lives. LaBeouf relocated to New Orleans, purchasing a residential property and establishing a base near family members. In June, LaBeouf was sentenced to probation after entering a guilty plea to battery charges stemming from a physical altercation outside a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras festivities.
Goth's divorce petition also arrived one day after the legal resolution of a separate matter involving LaBeouf. On Monday, singer and actor FKA Twigs, legally named Tahliah Barnett, moved to dismiss a California lawsuit against LaBeouf after both parties resolved contested nondisclosure provisions. Barnett had originally filed suit in December 2020, alleging physical and emotional abuse during their past relationship, which began after they collaborated on the 2019 film Honey Boy.
Goth, born Mia Gypsy Mello da Silva Goth in London, has experienced significant professional momentum throughout the separation period. After gaining critical acclaim for her starring roles in filmmaker Ti West's horror trilogy consisting of X, Pearl, and MaXXXine, she appeared as Melantho in The Odyssey and secured roles in upcoming major feature film releases. Legal proceedings regarding child custody and the division of marital assets will proceed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
