The network debuted the fourth season teaser at New York Comic-Con, pairing archive footage from 2010 with star Melissa McBride's announcement that she plans a franchise break following the European spinoff.

AMC will premiere the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon in February 2027 across its cable network and streaming service AMC+, concluding the overseas journey of veteran survivors Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier.

The announcement arrived during an emotional presentation at New York Comic-Con, where network executives paired the broadcast window with the public unveiling of an extensive first-look trailer. The footage confirmed long-standing industry reporting regarding the production schedule, while formally establishing a definitive endpoint for the franchise's two oldest surviving figures. On stage at the event, co-star Melissa McBride wept openly as she addressed the crowd, confirming that the upcoming fourth installment marks the formal conclusion of the partnership between Carol and Norman Reedus's Daryl.

The newly released promotional video frames the upcoming adventure against the broader canvas of their sixteen-year history, blending glimpses of upcoming action in Europe with archival scenes taken directly from the earliest seasons of the parent series. Those retrospective sequences highlight the personal bond that carried the characters from their initial encounters in Georgia through Virginia, France, and Spain, underscoring the finality of their concluding chapter.

Reedus and McBride made their franchise debuts together during the third episode of The Walking Dead in 2010. Over eleven seasons of the original cable hit, their relationship transformed from hesitant camp acquaintances into the undisputed emotional core of the franchise. That dynamic carried directly into the overseas spinoff, which centered its second season on their cross-continental search under the subtitle The Book of Carol.

Addressing attendees at the Javits Center panel, McBride spoke candidly about the impending farewell. She stated directly that audiences will witness the end of Daryl and Carol as an on-screen pairing during the fourth season. McBride also confirmed that she plans to take an extended hiatus from the franchise once work on Daryl Dixon concludes, ruling out immediate participation in subsequent television expansions.

While McBride prepares to step away from the apocalyptic universe, Reedus is actively engaged in discussions regarding his continued involvement with AMC. Studio executives have pursued negotiations for another project that would keep Daryl Dixon anchored in the company's long-term production slate.

That divergence in contractual trajectories has fueled intense viewer discussion regarding the fate of both figures. While some fans expressed concern that the narrative might kill off Carol, the third season established a narrative foundation for a peaceful divergence instead. During their travels across the Iberian Peninsula, Carol established a personal relationship with Antonio, discovering a degree of domestic contentment that had eluded her since the start of the outbreak.

With their original goal focused on returning to North America, the final season emphasizes the fundamental question of where each character belongs. Daryl remains driven to cross the ocean to reunite with surviving allies at the Commonwealth settlement, while Carol may elect to stay behind in Spain. A voluntary separation would provide emotional closure without subjecting either figure to violence, aligning directly with McBride's announced career break.

Filming for the concluding chapter transitioned into Spain after two seasons centered in France, establishing an expansive scenic backdrop for the pair's concluding run across the continent. AMC has steadily streamlined its roster of character-led spinoffs over recent broadcast cycles, balancing veteran viewer loyalty with shifting production realities across cable television and streaming platforms.

The prospect of Daryl returning to America alone has also intensified long-standing speculation regarding a possible reunion with Rick Grimes, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln. Lincoln recently concluded The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live alongside Danai Gurira, leaving Rick and Michonne safely reunited in Alexandria, Virginia. Lincoln has publicly signaled openness to future franchise appearances, fueling expectations that Reedus's ongoing studio talks could culminate in a shared storyline bringing former ensemble leaders back together on screen.

For now, AMC creative leadership remains focused on finishing Daryl and Carol's shared European odyssey in style. When the final season arrives on AMC in February 2027, the network will close one of modern television's most durable partnerships, delivering an emotional conclusion to two survivors whose journeys began together more than a decade and a half ago.
