Caleb Williams Leaves Bears-Vikings Game With Hamstring Injury

CHICAGO — Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was forced out of Sunday’s 9-3 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a right hamstring injury late in the fourth quarter.

The injury happened shortly after the Bears kept a red-zone drive alive on fourth down. Williams took the snap and scrambled toward the left side of the field, appearing to have a clear route toward the end zone. As he accelerated, his right leg appeared to give out, sending him to the ground.

Williams attempted to get back up but was unable to do so on his own. Team trainers helped him to the injury tent, where he remained for several minutes before being taken to the locker room on a cart.

Sitting on the cart, Williams initially had a towel covering his head and appeared to be in discomfort. Before leaving the field at Soldier Field, he lifted his right fist and gave the crowd a thumbs-up.

The Bears are expected to have Williams undergo imaging Monday to determine the extent of the hamstring injury.

Tyson Bagent took over at quarterback following Williams’ departure. Chicago had a chance to close the gap late in the game but could not turn its opportunities inside Minnesota’s 6-yard line into a touchdown. The Bears ultimately settled for a 23-yard field-goal attempt, which was blocked.

Sunday’s game was played throughout a steady downpour, adding difficult conditions to an already challenging afternoon for Chicago.
