Nick Sirianni takes responsibility after the Philadelphia Eagles’ 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears, as the team looks to recover against the Los Angeles Rams.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni accepted responsibility after his team suffered a 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
The Eagles struggled throughout the game on both sides of the ball, producing little offensively while allowing Chicago quarterback Case Keenum to throw for 247 yards and two touchdowns. Philadelphia also committed 10 penalties for 61 yards during a night in which the team never appeared to find its rhythm.
Speaking after the game, Sirianni said the responsibility for the performance ultimately falls on him.
“I think we all have to own that loss,” Sirianni said. “I don’t think anyone coached well, I don’t think anyone played well. It was a true team loss and when it’s a true team loss, I have to look at myself first.”
Sirianni added that the Eagles were not sufficiently prepared for the matchup.
“We weren’t ready to coach, we weren’t ready to play and that ultimately starts and ends with me,” he said. “It’s my responsibility. Every product on that field is my responsibility. I didn’t do a good enough job.”
Eagles Struggle From Start to Finish
Philadelphia’s problems extended beyond one area. The offense failed to generate consistent momentum, while the defense allowed Chicago to control the game for long stretches.
The Eagles’ 10 penalties were another major setback and contributed to an uneven performance. Although Sirianni is not the team’s primary play-caller, he acknowledged that preparation and overall execution fall under his responsibility as head coach.
The result was particularly difficult for Philadelphia because of the way Chicago controlled the matchup. The Bears won convincingly despite entering the game with Keenum at quarterback.
For Sirianni, the loss dropped his Monday Night Football record to 5-6 since taking over as the Eagles’ head coach.
Philadelphia Has Little Time to Recover
The Eagles will not have much time to dwell on the loss. Philadelphia now turns its attention to a matchup with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
The Rams enter that game at 1-2 and will also be looking for a victory, setting up an important early-season meeting for both teams.
Philadelphia still has one more Monday night appearance on its schedule this season. The Eagles are set to host the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Oct. 26.
For now, Sirianni and the Eagles must focus on correcting the issues that contributed to their loss against Chicago and preparing for the next challenge.
